Cardiff Council has welcomed one of Wales’ largest employers’ ambitions to increase its workforce by more than a thousand in the city.
International motor insurer Admiral Group Ltd, which has its headquarters in Cardiff, currently employs just over 1,800 staff in Cardiff and hopes to increase this substantially over the next few years to around 3,000.
The Council has been working closely with the company for many years and is delighted that as a result Admiral is looking to expand its business in Cardiff creating the largest investment in jobs in Wales this year.
Admiral originated in Cardiff in 1993, and is now a global force, operating in seven countries with 14 motor insurance brands. It is Wales’ highest valued public limited company, and the only FTSE 100 Company with Welsh headquarters.
Cardiff Council Leader Rodney Berman said: “The Council is very aware of the valuable contribution businesses in Cardiff make to the development of the local and regional economy which is why we have been working hard to assist Admiral in their plans for expansion.
“Admiral could play a key role in bringing more employment into the city. The Council has a long and successful track record of working in partnership with the private sector to deliver significant regeneration in the city centre, stimulating the local economy and assisting in the provision of a wide range of job opportunities”.
Councillor Neil McEvoy, Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Executive Member for Economic Development, said: “I welcome Admiral’s commitment to Cardiff. Its vision for growth is important for the city and it is crucial during these difficult economic times that we work with local businesses to promote job opportunities for local people.”
A public exhibition to be held at Cardiff Central Library on February 24th and 25th will set out designs and drawings detailing Admiral’s vision for a city centre location which will allow the company significant potential to grow as a business.
