People concerned about traffic congestion in Garn Cross, Nantyglo, can now park their vehicles away from the road in a new 45-space car park.
Blaenau Gwent Council – working in partnership with Nantyglo Communities First and local police – consulted residents and came up with proposals to build a car park on the site of the former Nantyglo Workmen’s Club.
The new car park includes four disabled places and surrounding environmental improvements. Improved lighting has been installed and a CCTV camera will be up and running within the next few weeks.
The car park is one of the main projects in the Nantyglo Action Plan – a multi agency approach to bring environmental improvements to Nantyglo.
Councillor John Mason, ward member for Nantyglo helped officially open the new car park.
He said: “We listened and responded to the concerns of the people in this community. The result of the new car park is that the main route through the village will be much less congested thanks to the street remaining largely free of vehicles.”
