Country Park Usage Continues to Rise

The number of people visiting Wrexham’s Country Park has risen rapidly over the last year.

Figures for the use of Alyn Waters Country Park, Ty Mawr Country Park and Nant Mill Visitor Centre were up on the previous year.

Nant Mill Visitor Centre saw the biggest increase for the 2009/10 year, with a 38% rise in visitors from 37,583 to 51,945.

Alyn Waters Country Park Visitor Centre saw use increase from 82,705 to 88,6111 visits, an increase of 7% while Ty Mawr Country Park so their visitor usage climb from 67,919 to 72,656, an increase of 6%.

Environmental educational visits by schools, which sees pupils take part in various environmental activities also saw an increased by 30% from 5,151 to 6,747 pupils visits.

The number of people attending various park events in 2009/10 also increased from 25,712 to 26, 287.

A recent survey undertaken by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) found that in urban areas, 87% of people used their local park or open space in the last year and that parks and open spaces are the most frequently used of all public services tracked.

Now is a good time for families from home and beyond to get out and enjoy our plants and wildlife in the many Wrexham County Parks.”
