County Council lends its support to town’s annual literature and arts festival

headerFlintshire County Council is lending its support to this year’s Daniel Owen Festival, which takes place at venues across Mold from Friday 18 to Friday 25 October.

The festival celebrates the life and work of prominent author Daniel Owen – often described as Wales’ answer to Charles Dickens – with a week-long event round his home town.

As part of the festival, on Sunday 20 October, the Council’s Arts, Culture and Events Team has organised a felt pods workshop by artist Ticky Lowe, where 3D hollow forms in felt, inspired by seeds and seedpods, will be created. It will be held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Mold, between 10am and 4pm and will cost £30 per person.

The day will include a practical introduction to making felt 3D forms with contrasting colours and then a chance to make a larger scale complex 3d hollow form. It will also include a slide show and a talk about Ticky’s way of working. Participants will also have an opportunity to investigate Ticky’s inspiring objects, and explore her collection of seeds and images using a USB microscope.

Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said:

“The Daniel Owen Festival is a key date on Mold’s cultural calendar and I would urge people to get involved. Ticky Lowe’s workshop is just one of a number of exciting events taking place throughout the week and is tailored for all abilities. To book a place please contact the Arts, Culture and Events Team, at Flintshire County Council, on 01352 704408. Places are strictly limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis.”

Please note that refreshments will be provided on the day but participants will need to bring their own lunch.
