With temperatures plunging to -15C in parts of Carmarthenshire the warning for those travelling by car or out on foot is to be careful of treacherous surfaces.
With more snow forecast for Sunday and icy freezing conditions forecast to prevail for up to two weeks motorists are being asked to exercise extreme caution.
All main routes A and B roads are passable with care with Carmarthenshire County Council teams working round the clock to maintain services and keep main travel roads open.
County executive board member for transport services Cllr Haydn Jones: “I have been impressed with the tolerance and patience of drivers generally throughout the county and the hard work of our refuse, gritting teams and public service drivers.
“With the freeze continuing we can only appeal for common sense in making journeys that are absolutely essential.
“The Council is offering a winter weather disruption advise service on its website which is being updated daily covering all services at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk
“The bulletin focuses on the weather, condition of roads, salt supplies and school closures, but also includes other information such as the condition of car parks in leisure centres, public transport and mobile libraries.”
School and College Transport:
Transport is operating where possible to those schools and college campuses which are open, although buses are operating mostly on main roads where these have been treated, and avoiding side roads, estate roads and very rural roads. However operators are experiencing problems with freezing vehicles (particular problems with diesel, air tanks and linkages) resulting in a number of breakdowns.
Local Public Transport:
Local bus services continue to be affected by difficult road conditions. Most services are operating, although mainly on the primary roads which have been treated. Many buses are unable to access side roads and estate roads, or run in very rural areas.
On Friday morning Services 128 and 129 were unable to travel via Parklands Road and were having to run through Hendre Road to Capel Hendre Square, missing out Dyffryn Road and Saron
Service 166 was unable to run through Bancffosfelen and Mynyddcerrig
Service 198 was unable to run via Llansaint
Service 225 was not operating.
Service 227 was not operating the diversion off the main road to and from Llangain Hall
The “Bwcabus” service is operating where possible for pre-booked passengers, however service 601 (Tanglwst and Capel Iwan to Newcastle Emlyn) is unable to operate
