Cover Drive added to Eirias bill

The chart topping sunshine and sounds of Barbados arrive on the shores of Colwyn Bay this summer, with the addition of the quartet Cover Drive to the bill at Access All Eirias on July 28 in support of Olly Murs and Pixie Lott.

Cover Drive celebrated a UK number one earlier this year with Twilight, following their debut single Lick Ya Down, which stormed into the Top 10 last year. Their debut album Bajan Style was released this month and their fresh, sun-soaked sound is set to dominate the airwaves in 2012, with the band already supporting fellow Barbadian Rihanna and UK chart-topper Dappy.

The name Cover Drive comes from the great West Indian passion for cricket, and the quartet of friends has been together for two years, made up of Amanda, Jamar and T-Ray (all 18), plus Barry (22).  They call their sound Carib-pop, a blend of their Caribbean roots in reggae, dub and soca with happy, hook-laden pop.

Iwan Davies, Chief Executive of Conwy County Borough Council said: “The line-up for Access All Eirias just keeps getting better and better. To have three number 1 selling artists on one bill is amazing. Colwyn Bay is set for an historic night of entertainment and I for one can’t wait to see Eirias Stadium come alive this summer!”

Also on the Access All Eirias programme is urban pop star 16 year-old A*M*E (pronounced Amy), who arrives in Colwyn Bay from Sierra Leone via London with a debut single called City Lights.

The bill is topped by one of the most popular performers in the country, Olly Murs, supported by Brit Award nominee Pixie Lott, and there are tickets still available for the concert from www.orchardentertainment.co.uk or from the Venue Cymru Box Office on 01492 872000.

The concert promoter is Orchard, Wales’ leading independent music promoter. Orchard  director Pablo Janczur said: “Sales have been really strong since the concert was announced, and now with more high profile names added to the bill, we are confident of getting a capacity crowd of 15,000 to the event in the height of the summer.”

The event is supported by Conwy County Borough Council, Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Principality Building Society and media partners Heart FM; Daily Post; and North Wales Weekly News.

An Olympic Celebration Day takes place on the day before Access All Eirias with a whole host of family entertainment and a free evening concert in the stadium featuring, amongst other, Only Men Aloud, Mike Peters and Sophie Evans.
