Criccieth RNLI launched to late night incident at Hafan y Môr

At 10.26pm on Monday the 19 of September, volunteer crew members from Criccieth’s RNLI lifeboat station were requested to launch into rough seas to rescue a woman reported to be in the sea near the Hafan y Môr holiday complex.

Following reports of a distressed woman in trouble near the shoreline, the stations relief Atlantic 85 class boat, Mary Lewis, was launched immediately, whilst the smaller, more manoeuvrable near shore Arancia lifeboat, Margret a Nantw, was prepared in anticipation. Thankfully there was no operational need for either boat as the crew were stood-down a few minutes after the launch, as the incident was resolved safely.

Nevertheless, in complete darkness and in unforgiving sea conditions the launch demonstrated crew members’ willingness and courage to risk their own wellbeing for the safety of others. The launch and recovery phases of such operations are also very demanding in dangerous sea conditions and testament to the crew’s skill and teamwork.
