LV=County Championship Division Two, Monday 13 September-Thursday 16 September
GLAMORGAN v DERBYSHIRE, Swalec Stadium, 10.30am
GLAMORGAN enter their final match of the season with promotion from LV= County Championship Division Two very much in their own hands.
The Welsh county currently hold a nine-point lead over third-placed Worcestershire and victory over Derbyshire will see them return to the top flight for the first time since 2005.
Last week’s rain-affected draw against Surrey at the Oval meant Worcestershire closed the gap but a home match against the country’s bottom-placed side provides a great opportunity for Glamorgan to take something away from the 2010 season after two failures in the one-day competitions.
Derbyshire are not to be underestimated. They recently beat Gloucestershire at Bristol to scupper the West Country side’s chances of promotion and Glamorgan will be hoping the Midlands county won’t ruin another team’s season. Glamorgan haven’t beaten Derbyshire at Cardiff since 1992.
Worcestershire will almost certainly have to overcome the newly-crowned Division Two champions Sussex at New Road to leapfrog Glamorgan in the table, who also have Leicestershire to stave off, but a handful of bonus points should achieve that.
A Glamorgan win will see them promoted. A high-points draw could also clinch second place. Defeat leaves the door open for Worcestershire.
