Crooks cash pumped back into fight against crime

Speaking following the release of the latest quarterly Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) statistics which announced that Gwent Police will receive £72,870.92, Chief Superintendent Ray Wise who heads up Gwent Police CID commented:

“This is money that the Force receives as a result of financial investigation into those who benefit from crime.

The money we receive will continue to be reinvested into community based crime initiatives and to increase our capacity for financial investigations.

Criminals are in effect supporting Gwent Police in delivering frontline policing.

We target criminals operating at every level, including the low level criminals who are usually stealing from the communities in which they live. This approach puts resources back into the hands of the law-abiding majority and sends out the strong message that crime does not pay. Recovering criminal assets can have a real impact on serious organised crime and helps make local communities safer.

I would appeal to anyone who has information about criminals operating in their communities to contact Gwent Police by dialling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. We can then act on this information and help ensure that criminals are bought to justice and that any money or assets they have made can be taken away from them.”
