Visitors to libraries in Swansea can now get help cutting their electric bills thanks to a sparkling new scheme.
Libraries across the city are giving users the chance to borrow an energy monitor for up to three weeks that will show exactly how much energy is being used in their homes and what they can do to save it.
Swansea Council’s Library Service and Housing Department have joined forces with SWALEC to make the scheme possible.
Energy monitors are portable and easy to install and show people within minutes how much electricity their appliances are using, how much it’s costing and what can be done to save energy and money.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “This is a great scheme that gives people the chance to find out how they can reduce their carbon footprint and save cash.
“Each of our libraries across the city has a small amount of energy monitors available to borrow and it really is just as simple as taking out a book.”
Cllr Peter May, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We’re keen to help the people of Swansea understand more about how much energy their home uses and what steps can be taken to reduce energy use and cut fuel bills. The monitors come with easy-to-read instructions and we’re recommending that people keep a diary of their readings.”
Bill Persse, CESP Projects Manager for SWALEC, said: “We’re pleased to help householders identify and monitor their energy usage so they can reduce their bills.”
Library users can also win an energy monitor simply by filling in an evaluation form.
