Cwmcarn Forest welcomes its latest additions

Cwmcarn Forest has welcomed its latest additions… after three rare goshawk chicks hatched at a secret location within the forest over the weekend.

A pair of goshawks recently made their home at Cwmcarn Forest and soon set about laying eggs at the site – three of these eggs have now hatched, with the arrival of three healthy chicks, with another yet to hatch.

A ‘nest-cam’ was recently set up for birdwatchers and visitors to Cwmcarn Forest to see the birds without disturbing them. The goshawks made their screen debut last month, and visitors will be able to watch the pair rear their chicks until the end of August.

Known as ‘the phantoms of the forest’, only 500 breeding pairs of goshawks exist in the UK, so it is an amazing sight to be able to see these rare birds up close and personal via the ‘nest-cam’.
