Police are urging cyclists to make sure that their bikes are secure following a number of thefts in Bangor.
Chief Inspector Nigel Harrison said that there had been five cycles stolen in the Bangor area since the beginning of the month and he wanted to advise people to take more care.
He said that there were a number of measures which could be taken to help prevent bicycles being stolen.
Some of the most important tips are:-
- Buy a good quality lock
- Avoid leaving your bike in isolated and unlit areas
- Always lock your bike to immovable objects
It is also worth marking your bike and making a note of its make, model, frame number and colour. It will help you describe it to the police and increase the chance of recovery if it is stolen.
CI Harrison said: “We are very keen to help reduce the number of cycles being stolen in the Bangor area and will work with local people to ensure that this is the case.
“Apart from giving information and guidance on preventative measures we will also be using our Neighbourhood Policing Team to offer extra help and advice,” he said.
