Officers investigating a suspicious incident which occurred in Cyfarthfa Park on Tuesday (July 22) have released an e-fit of the suspect they are looking for.
Police were called to the Splash Park just after 3pm after receiving reports that a man had attempted to grab at the clothing of an 11 year-old girl while she was playing near the childrens climbing frame.
The girl, who was shocked but unhurt by the incident, managed to run back to the company of her friends.
The suspect – who is reported to have run off into adjacent forestry – is described as being between 30 and 40 years-old, around 5ft 10 with an average build. He had shoulder-length black hair which was slightly wavy, and he had a distinctive mark – possibly a mole – on the right side of his nose.
At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey hooded top with black trousers.
Merthyr Inspector John Diffey, said: “An E-Fit has been developed which we hope will help us to identify the person involved in this incident.”
“It is understandable that the community is alarmed – this incident causes us concern and we are a taking it very seriously.”
“However, we are urging people to remain calm while we investigate the exact circumstances of what happened. Of course, parents should be alert to the situation.”
“At this stage we are treating the incident as an assault – this is an isolated incident.” he added.
Officers have carried out house to house enquiries and have also stepped-up patrols in the area.
