A young Pembrokeshire swimmer has been selected for a major swimming championships.
Daniel Thomas from Pembroke will represent one of two Welsh teams in this year’s Inter-County Championship.
Regional teams from Scotland and England will also take part in the championships, which will be held in Sheffield this Sunday (October 17th).
Daniel, who is coached by County swimming development coach Paul Dowey, has also been selected for the Welsh Regional Squad.
The 12-year-old Pembroke School pupil started swimming at six with the Pembroke and District swimming club.
His early coaches included Trina Bowen, David Thompson, Francis Bunker and Keith Thompson, as well as his father Phill, who has been nominated as a regional finalist for Volunteer Coach of the Year in this year’s Swim Wales Recognition Awards.
Daniel progressed to the Pembrokeshire Performance Squad in April last year.
In Sunday’s competition he will swim in the 100metres butterfly and also take part in the relays.
“I’m delighted for Daniel that he has been picked to represent one of the two Welsh teams in this prestigious tournament,” said Paul Dowey. “He has natural talent but also works hard and puts a great deal of effort into his training.”
