Date Set for Denbighshire Eisteddfod Public Meeting

The 2013 National Eisteddfod will be held in Denbighshire, and local preparatory work for the Festival begins with a public meeting on Monday evening (18 April) to encourage local people to be part of the preparations for Wales’ leading festival, held on Kilford Farm near Denbigh from 3-10 August 2013.

National Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said:

The Eisteddfod has visited Denbighshire a number of times over the years, and we’ve always enjoyed a warm welcome in the county, so we’re very much looking forward to returning in two years time.  The Eisteddfod was last held locally in 2001, on Kilford Farm – our home again in 2013 – which is an accessible and pleasant location for visitors from all directions.

“Since announcing our intention to return to Denbighshire, we’ve had enquiries from people across the whole area, keen to get involved in the preparations, and we hope that this enthusiasm and eagerness will continue for the next two years, to ensure that we have a week to remember in August 2013.”

Hywyn Williams, Denbighshire County Council’s Corporate Director – Communities and Learning, added:

“We see the return of the Eisteddfod to Denbighshire as a golden opportunity to promote our county – the place, the people and its traditions – and to play our part in appreciating and further promoting the rich language and culture of our country.

“There’s a real urge within the Council to work closely with the Eisteddfod and local communities over the next two and a half years to prepare for the festival.”

The public meeting is an opportunity for local people to show their support and volunteer to be part of the preparations.  The support and help of local people is vitally important, with local communities playing an active and central role in organising the Eisteddfod as the festival visits different parts of Wales.

Following the meeting, local committees will be established, and the literary and administrative discussions begin.  The local appeal committees will also be set up and the fundraising work will start in earnest.  Everyone is welcome at the meeting, and simultaneous translation equipment will be available for anyone who needs it on the night.
