Davies: Airport’s decline damaging to Welsh business

Welsh Conservatives today called for measures to reverse the decline at Cardiff Airport as figures published today showed the number of passengers travelling through Cardiff Airport fell by 14% last year.

Byron Davies AM, Shadow Minister for Transport, said, “While these figures do not come as a surprise, they are yet another blow to Wales’ flagship airport.

“Cardiff has seen a number of major airlines, including most recently BMi, withdrawing international routes from Cardiff to increase operations from other UK airports.

“A decline in international travel opportunities to and from Wales is damaging to Welsh businesses and makes Wales a less attractive place to invest.

“Welsh Labour Government Ministers need to sit down with Cardiff Airport bosses to develop a clear strategy to stem the airport’s decline by making Cardiff a more attractive prospect to potential clients.”
