Davies: Dementia Plan Delay Unacceptable

Shadow Minister for Health, Andrew RT Davies, expressed his frustration that the Assembly Government is still unable to give a date for the publication of the Dementia Plan for Wales.

In her response to the Welsh Conservative’s debate on dementia care in the Assembly yesterday, the Deputy Minister for Social Services commented that she is awaiting the findings of four task and finish groups due to report at the end of March before she can publish the Plan.

Mr Davies said:

“It is highly disappointing that the Assembly Government is putting the date of the Dementia Plan’s publication back again.

“There was a strong feeling from members across all parties that the delays in bringing the Plan forward are unacceptable, and this was echoed by the petitioners who came to the Senedd yesterday.

“The delays only serve to prolong the ongoing uncertainty for many dementia care service providers across Wales.

The Assembly Government must act as a matter of urgency to ensure that people in Wales with dementia are able to access the care they need.”
