Commenting on the warning by the Finance Director of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg (ABM) University Health Board that it is at risk of failing to deliver its statutory duties because of crippling financial problems, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“It is gravely concerning that the ABM Health Board may not be able to meet its statutory requirements.
“However, ABM are not alone in this respect as 6 out of the 7 health boards in Wales have indicated that they are in a similar financial predicament.
“Continued mismanagement of health budgets in Wales is compromising patient care.
“It is vitally important that health boards not only meet statutory requirements but also the day to day needs of patients.
“It is incumbent on the Minister to work with the health boards to ensure these vast overspends do not continue and that staffing requirements and patients’ treatment needs are met.”
