Davies: Minister must get to grips with doctor shortage

Commenting on reports that the NHS in Wales is short of almost 400 hospital doctors, Shadow Minister for Health, Andrew RT Davies said:

“The current doctor and consultant shortage in the Welsh NHS is well known.

“I was pleased to attend the recent launch of the BMA’s recruitment campaign to attract more doctors to Wales and put right several of the negative perceptions of Wales.

“It is critical that the Minister gets to grip with this issue as we are already seeing increased waiting times in many aspects of the Welsh NHS.

“This situation can only get worse unless the recruitment of experienced medical staff is prioritised.

“The Assembly Government also needs to stop its political meddling in the NHS and allow clinicians to treat their patients as they see fit rather than subscribing to political ideology.”
