Commenting on the deal reached by the BBC and S4C Authority over the future of S4C, Shadow Minister for Heritage Suzy Davies AM, said:
“This is an incredibly important deal that I welcome wholeheartedly.
“The agreement that’s been reached is in the best interests of all and I am both delighted and relieved that the future of S4C has been safeguarded.
“Ensuring the continuation of Welsh language services through S4C was always paramount – along with the channel’s retention of editorial and operational independence.
“I am confident that S4C will now move forward, maturely focusing its efforts on sustained quality programming. The channel has become an important part of Britain’s democratic culture – not just a vehicle for the Welsh language, essential though that is.
“I am sure that the new Chairman and Chief Executive will bring the very best out of S4C – making it more difficult for its future to ever be in question again.”
