Commenting on the Health Minister’s statement on the allocation of central funding 2010-11 for palliative and end of life care, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“It is vital that we ensure that palliative and end of life care in Wales is improved to meets the needs of all patients across the country.
“The importance of fulfilling the wishes of people facing end of life issues must not be underestimated and should be accounted for in care programmes.
“Hospices need service level agreements in place with local health boards so that they are treated as partners in the provision of this care.
“The Minister must work with her colleagues to secure a sustainable funding stream for palliative and end of life care that does not come to an end when pilot projects end or when ministers move on.
“This is fundamental in ensuring that long term improvements are developed and maintained.”
