Welsh Conservatives have today raised further concerns over the Assembly Government’s scheme for every secondary school in Wales to have a school nurse by March 2011.
In a response to a written Assembly question tabled by Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM, the Health Minister confirms that ‘not all these nurses will be full time’ by March 2011.
Commenting on the Minister’s response, Mr Davies said:
“I am disappointed by the Minister’s response. Clearly medical emergencies can happen at any time and have serious consequences, which is why having a full time nurse is so important.
“I have already raised concerns about the Assembly Government’s commitment to sustaining this scheme, given that the funding is only being guaranteed at Government level until 2011.
“Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly apparent that this scheme is something of a pre-Assembly election gimmick rather than a real drive to improve the health and well being of children across Wales.”
