Commenting on the Health Minister’s announcement detailing measures to shorten the wait of patients waiting for wheelchairs and other mobility equipment, Shadow Minister for Health, Andrew RT Davies said:
“As a member of the Committee who instigated the review, I am pleased that action is being proposed to speed up access to wheelchairs and other mobility equipment.
“The Committee heard disturbing evidence of unacceptable delays for disabled and vulnerable people in obtaining the equipment they need to improve their quality of life.
“It is very worrying that this issue has been looked at by several levels of government but we still have not seen an improvement.
“By the Minister’s own admission, the department has failed and she as Minister ultimately has to take responsibility for this failure.”
“We have seen compelling evidence that a number of initiatives have promised much but in reality have delivered little, due to a lack of resourcing and dropping down of Government priorities.
“While I welcome the Minister’s assurances, she must ensure that the department is fully engaged in the Stage 2 review and the action needed is driven through accordingly.”
