Commenting on a Which? study highlighting a 48 per cent passenger satisfaction rating for First Great Western, Shadow Minister for Transport Byron Davies AM said:
“Seeing the results of this survey will obviously be a great disappointment to First Great Western, though perhaps not a surprising conclusion for many Welsh rail commuters.
“While I know all of those associated with the franchise work incredibly hard, there are clearly improvements that can be made.
“It is the opinions of users that matter most and this survey is a huge cause for concern. I urge the transport minister to look very carefully at these findings. Working closely with the franchise with regard to its Welsh route is essential if we are to develop and improve sustainable transport here.
“Electrification of the tracks is vital and I am delighted that the current UK Government has put that issue firmly on the agenda. While these developments will add to the great appeal of rail as a sustainable form of travel, it is crucial that the franchise prioritises further work on improving the overall passenger experience. In order for it be successful, that has to go hand-in-hand with upcoming electrification.”
