Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths has criticised a local Community Council’s decision to deny funding for a successful parent and toddler group.
The result of the judgement means the facility will now close, leaving members and organisers devastated.
The group based at the Venture in Caia Park required £8,000 from the local Community Council for next financial year but their request was rejected.
The service offered advice and opportunities for parents which in turn helped build confidence and improve wellbeing.
The parent and toddler group only started a year ago but was moving from strength to strength. Recent feedback from a Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) inspection was extremely positive, recognising the benefits and excellent work undertaken at the facility.
Commenting after the controversial decision was passed, Wrexham AM Griffiths said:
“Constituents have contacted me since Caia Park Community Council made their unfortunate and ill-advised decision.”
“Around 60 people who use service and have been left extremely disappointed and as a patron of the Venture, I believe this decision will have a devastating effect on the area.”
“Above all else and by definition, community councils should support their local community and I would urge the members of Caia Park Community Council to reconsider their decision.”
