Deeside Athletics Club is holding a recruitment drive in an attempt to grow the army of volunteers that support the successful club.
The open evening will be held at the club, based in the North Wales Indoor Athletics Centre, Kelsterton Road, Connah’s Quay on Monday 28 July from 7 – 9pm.
Deeside Athletics is the only athletics club in Flintshire and they cater for junior, senior and disabled athletes. The club aims to provide opportunities for both youngsters and adults to participate and enjoy athletics in a fun and safe environment under the guidance of fully trained coaches. Currently the club boasts 132 members with ages ranging from 9 to 65 plus.
Donna Welsh, Athletics Development Officer attached to Deeside Athletics Club said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our club and without them we simply wouldn’t exist.
“The Open Evening will be a fantastic opportunity for local people interested in volunteering to come down, see the facilities, meet the coaches and athletes and find out more about what we do at Deeside Athletics Club.”
Councillor Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Strategy, Public Protection and Leisure said: “Volunteers are so important for local organisations and sports groups. They enable people to take part and improve at skills and sports that otherwise might not exist so if you have some spare time it’s a great way to help your local community.”
The club is looking to recruit a number of different roles both on the practical coaching side and roles which support the running of the club, for example, fund raising, marketing and promotion, website/social media and many more.
