As student life begins once more at Deeside College, award winning students recently paid a visit to Flintshire County Council’s Chair, Councillor Hilary McGuill.
Councillor McGuill met and congratulated Deeside College Work based Learner of the Year, 2011, Lee Burton; Welsh Baccalaureate Student of the Year, James Preece; and Alistair Owen, who won the 14-16 School Link Student of the Year award.
Lee attended Deeside College for four years, whilst on day release from his job as an engineer. He left school with no qualifications but has now completed an NVQ Level 3 in Engineering and has just enrolled onto an Engineering Leadership qualification.
Having gained his Welsh Baccalaureate and achieved a A*, A*, A, A profile in his A levels, James Preece is now preparing to go to Cambridge University to study law.
Alistair Owen beat 800 other school pupils from the Flintshire 14-19 Network to win his prestigious award.
Councillor McGuill said:
“It is always a pleasure to celebrate accomplishment and I congratulate these three young men for their success at Deeside College. I wish each of them a very successful future in their working lives.”
