A group of schoolchildren from Pembrokeshire who are on a trip abroad, have had to delay their return home because of the disruption to air travel caused by the Icelandic volcanic eruption.
A party of 24 female students, plus two teachers, from Greenhill Comprehensive School in Tenby, were due to arrive back at Cardiff Airport this morning from Gibralter.
However the flight was cancelled following the suspension of air traffic in UK airspace.
They are now due to return on Saturday, landing at 3 pm at East Midlands airport and arriving back in Tenby in the evening.
Pembrokeshire County Council spokesman, Len Mullins, said the students – who are taking part in a hockey and netball tournament in Gibralter – were now booked to stay the extra two days at the same hotel.
“We have been ringing parents to inform them of the change in the travel arrangements” he added.
Said headteacher, Jan Kingson: “We have spoken to members of the group and they are all fine. They are treating it as an extra two days holiday.”
