The Rhys Davies Trust and Academi, the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Authors, have recently launched a set of sixteen limited edition postcards which celebrate some of Wales’ most prolific writers.
The collection, which includes poets, literary critics, short-story writers and novelists, features images of Rhys Davies, Brenda Chamberlain, Roland Mathias, Leslie Norris, Glyn Jones, Gwyn Jones, R. S. Thomas, John Tripp, T.H. Jones, Raymond Williams, Harri Webb, Emyr Humphreys, John Ormond, Jack Jones, Alun Richards and Gwyn Thomas.
The cards, which are supported by the Library of Wales (Parthian), include details of each author’s Library of Wales publication (where there is one) along with details of the celebratory plaques around Wales which commemorate a number of the featured writers.
“Knowing who our writers are is the first step to reading them. This new set of black and white postcards celebrates some of our greatest authors. Watch out for a second series. Start collecting now,” said Peter Finch, Academi Chief Executive.
Chair of the Rhys Davies Trust, Meic Stephens, added: “Many countries honour their writers by depicting them on postcards. The Welsh cards are attractive reminders of some of our best-loved writers in English. Our hope is that they will be used by the literary community in Wales and snapped up by deltiologists across the world.”
