Denbigh Town Council has announced its intention to donate over £30,000 to the 2013 National Eisteddfod Fund, supporting the festival which will be held locally from 3-10 August in 2013.
The announcement came during the first public meeting to discuss the National Eisteddfod’s first visit to the area since 2001. The festival will be held within the town council’s boundaries on Kilford Farm.
Welcoming the news, Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said, “The generosity of Denbigh Town Council is a great boost to the Eisteddfod’s local fund right at the start, and it’s obvious that the Council has recognised the benefits the National Eisteddfod brings to an area. The response to the Eisteddfod’s visit to Denbighshire has been excellent, and we hope that this enthusiasm continues and that we’ll have a festival to remember in 2013.
“We welcome Denbigh Town Council’s announcement, as it clearly shows local people – and the other councils in the area – how important it is to support the National Eisteddfod. According to independent research, the Eisteddfod brings a significant economic benefit to an area – between £6-8 million, so investments like these from local councils are a great help to pave the way for when 150,000 – 160,000 visitors come to Denbighshire in 2013.”
The next step takes place at Denbigh High School at 18.30 on Wednesday 18 May, when the individual committees will be established. The Chairs of each of these committees will also serve on the local Executive Committee.
Information on how to volunteer to serve on one of these committees is included on the National Eisteddfod website – www.eisteddfod,org.uk – where you can download the form to return to the Eisteddfod Office. Information will also be released locally over the coming weeks. You can also contact the office on 0845 4090 400 for more information.
The Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod is held on Lower Berse Farm, off Ruthin Road, Wrexham from 30 July – 6 August. The Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod is held on the old Llandow airfield from 4-11 August 2012.
