Denbighshire’s Vale of Clwyd bus service wins second accolade

Bus services in the Vale of Clwyd have been awarded the prestigious UK Bus Awards 2010 “Bus in the Countryside” category during a ceremony in London on Tuesday.

The Denbighshire-led service came out on top from a short list of five very strong nominees. The project also won the ‘Innovation in Bus Provision’ category of the CILT Cymru’s National Transport Awards earlier in the year.

The Vale of Clwyd now has the best bus service it has ever seen. Key to the improvement is the 40-mile, hourly X50/X52 service by GHA Coaches linking Rhyl, Denbigh, Ruthin and Wrexham. It now runs hourly plus during the evenings and on Sundays with, for the first time, brand new, accessible buses.

These measures have seen increased numbers of passengers of between 95 and 160 per cent on the two main services, X50/X52 and Fflecsi. Passenger satisfaction rates are very high.

Councillor Sharon Frobisher, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “This award really is a great honour for Denbighshire and it has been made possible thanks to partnership working, a passionate public transport team and an enthusiastic lead operator. I congratulate everyone involved in this project for their hard work in making this project the success it is.”
