Denbighshire’s Cabinet has (Tuesday) agreed to publish a Statutory Notice to close Ysgol Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd as of the 31st of August 2014 and transfer existing pupils to Ysgol Borthyn, Ruthin (subject to parental preference).
Ysgol Llanbedr is a Voluntary Controlled Church in Wales primary school with 21 full time pupils and 7 part time pupils. Pupil projections show an increase in pupil numbers over the coming years. However surplus places will still remain an issue and the Council believes it will impact on the viability and sustainability of the school in the long term.
Cabinet approved the initial proposals in June 2013 following an informal consultation, as part of a wider review of schools in the Ruthin area. The Council then consulted with the St Asaph Church in Wales Dicoesan Authority and in October, Cabinet agreed to formally consult on the proposals.
Responses were received as part of the consultation and all the information was considered by Cabinet at the meeting today.
A statutory notice will be published in due course and information will be issued on how people can respond to the objection period. If no formal objections are received, the matter will be decided by the Council. If any objections are received we will publish an objections report.
