Denbighshire Geology and Archaeology Finds Identification Day

Have you found an interesting object which looks as though it may have historical significance?

On Thursday 21st July between 11.00 a.m. and 3 p.m, you have the chance to bring your finds to Loggerheads Country Park where a team of archaeologists and geologists are ready to have a go at identifying them.

So if you have found an old coin or a fossil, bring them along and our team will be more than willing to try to find an origin for your items.

Loggerheads is a place rich in Archaeology and Geology. The site has had many uses in the past such as a lead mine in the 19th Century. The site rests on a large amount of limestone which has been dated to 350 million years ago meaning that, although hard to imagine, this area was underwater 350 million years ago, so a fitting place to find out about the things you have found.

Jacqui Malpas, geologist with the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, said: “The geology in this area is fascinating dating back millions of years. Come and bring all those stones you have been gathering or artefacts you have found and we’ll certainly try to identify them’.
