Denbighshire: Stories on Our Streets

Heritage for Wales Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, will be giving an annual lecture on the relevance of heritage to the development of a small market town in North Wales as part of the events for Open Doors in Denbighshire.

This year Ruthin and District Civic Association are hosting the lecture on Friday 23 September, 7pm (for 7.30 start), Capel Pendref, Well Street, Ruthin.

Alun Ffred Jones was born in an industrial mining valley in South Wales and brought up in a rural village in Meirionnydd before becoming a teacher, television director, Assembly Member and Minister for Heritage for Wales.  In his address he will be talking about the way history, both locally and nationally has influenced his thinking and his work in these various spheres.

Mr Jones says: “Our physical environment, place names, our own family history is a never ending source of fascination and a rich mine of information for all of us.”

Open Doors events are taking place in Denbigh on 10 and 12 September, Llangollen on 17 and 18 September and in Ruthin on 24th and 25th September.
