Denbighshire County Council has welcomed news that the council has secured £3m of Welsh Assembly Government funding to enable a £4.2m investment in Welsh medium primary schools in the north of the county.
The funding secured will be used to extend Ysgol Y Llys, Prestatyn, subject to consultation and statutory approval.
The funding will also enable the council to progress remodelling works at Ysgol Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh and Ysgol Dewi Sant, Rhyl.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Lead Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said:
“We’re delighted to have secured funding from the assembly to progress these projects which form part of our overall Modernising Education strategy to ensure children and young people within Denbighshire have access to the best facilities possible and are able to reach their full potential.
“In particular the funding, subject to consultation, will enable the council to expand Welsh medium primary provision across the north of the county to meet the increased demand for places.”
In addition to progressing these projects, the council is committed to improving school facilities and is currently working on the Strategic Outline Programme for the 21st Century Schools Programme.
