Destination Denbighshire for tourism summit

Denbighshire County Council will be welcoming tourism colleagues from around the UK to the county for the annual conference of a UK destination tourism body.

British Destinations’ conference, being held at the Oriel Country Hotel & Spa, St Asaph starts on Tuesday evening, 21 June and will provide delegates the chance to hear from a variety of speakers on a range of subjects relating to tourism across the UK.

During the event, delegates will also be offered a tour of the North Wales Coast Regeneration Area, which includes Rhyl and Colwyn Bay or a Hinterland Tour to Denbigh and Ruthin.

During their tour of Rhyl they will hear about the developments of the Foryd Harbour and a walkabout along the promenade, taking in information about the West Rhyl Housing Regeneration Area.

Their tour of Denbigh will include a visit to the town centre and historic castle before heading to Ruthin for a brief tour of the town’s Craft Centre and a tour of Nantclwyd y Dre, Ruthin’s oldest timber framed townhouse.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for tourism,  said: “We are delighted that Denbighshire will be welcoming delegates to the annual conference of this prestigious association.

Denbighshire has a wealth of cultural and heritage attractions on offer, with the blend of the coastal resorts, the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the scenic Dee Valley to entice visitors. Coupled with our historic county towns, there’s something for everyone.

“That is why we think Denbighshire is the ideal destination for this conference and we hope that all delegates will enjoy a taste of what Denbighshire has to offer the tourism industry.”

Peter Hampson, Chief Executive of British Destinations said “British Destinations is delighted to be able to visit this wonderful part of the UK and learn about local initiatives to regenerate the area. Sharing experience and working together to further our common interest in the social and economic benefits of tourism is what this organisation is about. Denbighshire is a great venue for our conference,  both in terms of its range of rural and coastal product and in terms of its challenges and achievements to date.  We look forward to learning much whilst we are here.”
