This weekend, green-fingered residents across the Caerphilly county borough will be digging in to help plant trees for a special world record attempt.
This week is ‘National Tree Week’ and on Saturday 5th December a special BBC Breathing Spaces event called ‘Tree O’Clock’ will take place across the country.
‘Tree O’Clock’ is a world record attempt to plant the most trees in one hour between 11am and 12noon on Saturday.
At Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly local people are being encouraged to turn up and help the council plant new trees in the popular park (near the Marie Curie Field of Hope Meadow to the south of the site). Residents can also bring along their own trees to plant. For more information please contact Simon Beacham on 01443 811127.
Nearby in the village of Machen the community will be out in force to help plant a new orchard on a disused area of land. Funding for the scheme has been obtained from the council’s ‘Tidy Towns’ initiative and the orchard will bring many benefits to the community and local wildlife.
