Pupils at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School are celebrating the arrival of 21 new iPads, thanks to the fundraising efforts and support of the school PTA.
The iPads were the idea of the school’s ‘Digital Leaders’. The Digital Leaders are a group of seven Year 6 pupils who help out in all areas of ICT within the school, helping younger pupils to use computers, cameras and the internet safely as well as providing technical assistance to teachers when things go wrong.
The Digital Leaders wrote to the PTA in March explaining why they thought each classroom would benefit from an iPad. Reasons included how they could enhance pupils’ learning across the curriculum and improve ICT skills whilst making learning more interactive and enjoyable.
The iPads have proved hugely beneficial to the school, and children enjoy using them every day during their lessons. The school have also set up their own Twitter account and the iPads allow teachers to update this straight from the classroom, keeping parents informed of all the latest school announcements, and the wider community up-to-date with the school’s success and achievements. The Twitter account has been a great partnership between teachers, pupils and parents since launching earlier this year with almost 2,500 tweets being sent already.
Cllr Rhianon Passmore Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning said: “The recent achievements at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School highlight how important it is for schools, parents and carers to work together in order to provide the best possible learning environment for their children. The enormous fundraising efforts by the school PTA demonstrate how money raised really can benefit the pupils’ learning. I would like to personally congratulate them on their fantastic partnership.”
