DigiTv to the fore

Lucky golf fans from Neath Port Talbot have been rubbing shoulders with the stars at the recent Ryder Cup.

Residents within the area had the chance to enter a special competition to win tickets for the big event by using a new digital TV and phone service that makes it easier to access council services.

Tracey Linnane from Briton Ferry entered and her 11 year old son James and husband Michael attended the practice day of the Ryder Cup where they had the chance to see all the top players and grab some autographs.  Tracey accessed the DigiTv service to find out term dates for James’s school after reading about it in the Community Spirit newspaper.

Council Leader Ali Thomas said: “Congratulations to the winners and it was a great opportunity for them to be part of an event which drew so much worldwide attention to Wales.  I was very impressed with James and I would like to thank the organisers for the wonderful way they looked after him and his father in what was a memorable experience for them.  It’s also great to see our residents making use of all the technology available in making it easier o access our services.”

The Neath Port Talbot Council digital TV service contains information provided by local services and community organisations.

It is available to households who subscribe to Virgin Media or Sky digital television or through the Nintendo Wii or internet enabled mobile phones.

The service allows people to get local information and use services using their TV and remote control. It is particularly valuable for people who don’t have access to a computer and the internet.

As well as using the service to find information, residents can also give feedback and ask questions. This interactivity is an important part of the service. It allows residents to stay at home yet still ask questions, request services or ask for information.
