Discovery Centre calls all Nature Detectives

The United Nations have declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity, celebrating the diversity of life on Earth including every plant, animal and micro organism.

As part of the celebrations, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council has announced a series of “Our Nature” family events on Thursday 5th August commencing at 1.00pm at The Discovery Centre Margam Park.

With the support of partners, artists, wildlife experts and volunteers budding nature detectives can take part in Ecobunny’s Nature Trail and learn more about amphibians, reptiles, birds, moths and minibeasts.

There will be an opportunity for face painting and to take part in arts and crafts activities with children’s favourite Henson the Hedgehog. An exciting bat walk will also take place, at 8.00pm, from the Discovery Centre.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Ali Thomas said “This fun and educational event at Neath Port Talbot’s award winning Discovery Centre will provide families with an opportunity to find out more about the diverse local wildlife that thrives in Neath Port Talbot.

“The free events will also enable the community to learn more about the area in which they live and discover why biodiversity is important for a healthy environment.”

This fun-filled afternoon is funded by the Countryside for Wales and is supported by members of the Neath Port Talbot Biodiversity Forum.
