Distraction burglary in Penycae, Wrexham

An appeal for witnesses and information is being made following a distraction burglary at an address in Penycae, Wrexham yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 5th January).

At approx 3pm a man called at an address on Chapel Street purporting to be from the water board. He claimed they were carrying out work in the area and asked to check the water supply at the address of the elderly victim.

The woman let the man inside her property and they both went into the kitchen area. The man closed the door.

A short while later the woman heard a noise coming from her front room and as she opened the door she saw a further two men.

All three then pushed their way past her and left the property via the back door. They ran across the garden and jumped over a low wall onto Chapel Street.

The woman discovered that a substantial amount of cash had been stolen.

She was uninjured but shaken by the incident.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area to contact them. They are particularly keen on speaking to anyone who may have seen a dark coloured Volvo V40 that was seen in the area.
