Caerphilly county borough council is keen to raise awareness of the need for residents living in Caerphilly county borough who informally care for a friend or relative’s child to inform social services of these informal caring arrangements.
Private fostering is an arrangement when a child under 16 years of age (under 18 if the child has a disability) is looked after by someone who is not their parent or a close relative for 28 days or more.
There can be many reasons that a young person comes to live with someone who is not their family including problems in the family home, children who have relocated for medical or educational reasons and teenagers who live with their girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s family.
Caerphilly County Borough Council needs to be informed of these sorts of arrangements as they have a legal duty to safeguard the wellbeing of all children.
Private foster carers can benefit from support and advice through regular visits and possibly receive financial assistance. The child or young person in private foster care will also have access to support and information.
