A major Doctor Who Convention is taking place in Cardiff this weekend.
The convention, which is being hosted at the Wales Millennium Centre, is the first of its kind to be held by BBC Worldwide since the series returned to TV screens in 2005.
Fans of the popular sci-fi series, which is filmed in Cardiff, will be descending on the Welsh capital from as far afield as the USA; Australia; Canada; Norway; France; the Netherlands and Ireland for the event.
The Convention will give Doctor Who enthusiasts a unique chance to delve into the inner workings of the hit TV show and learn how it is created, taking a journey from script to screen.
With unique access to the cast and production crew, the event will offer fans a rare chance to see behind-the-scenes of the world’s longest running television sci-fi show.
As well as attending interactive panel discussions with key cast and crew, fans will be able to watch the Doctor Who special effects production team show how they create “out of this world effects”, with live demonstrations of pyrotechnics by the people responsible for designing and creating many of the show’s monsters and characters.
Cardiff Council Leader, Councillor Rodney Berman, said: “I would like to welcome everyone who is attending this convention to Cardiff and wish them a wonderful weekend.
“Doctor Who has become synonymous with Cardiff during the last seven years and we are very proud as a city to be the official home of what is a national institution, so it is fitting that this convention is being held here.”
He added: “Many Doctor Who fans will be coming to the city for the first time and as well as learning more about their favourite TV programme I hope they take full advantage of all the wonderful attractions that Cardiff also has to offer and really enjoy their stay here.”
