Dog owners in Swansea have been urged to use poop scoops and dog mess bins when they are out walking their pets.
Swansea Council says it has received a number of complaints from residents about levels of dog mess on public footpaths and in parks.
Areas including Sketty, Brynmill and Langland are now being targeted by Council Dog Fouling Officers who have the power to hand out fixed penalties to any dog owners caught failing to clear up after their pet.
Over 400 dog bins have been installed across Swansea in the hope they will be used by residents.
In the last month over two and a half tonnes of dog mess was retrieved from pavements by Council cleansing staff.
One resident who complained to the Council claimed she has thrown out a piece of carpet in her house worth over £100 after walking into her home with dog mess on her shoe.
John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “This is another example of anti-social behaviour.
“Some of our streets and even parks where children are playing are becoming blighted by dog mess.
“I would urge all dog owners to act responsibly or face receiving a fixed penalty if they fail to clear up after their pets and are caught.”
