Dog lovers are being advised to keep to dog-friendly beaches in Swansea and Gower between May and September.
The bye-law restricting dogs to specific beaches will be in force on May 1 and will be in place until September 30
Many of Swansea’s beaches are designated as dog-friendly beaches and offer pet owners miles of sandy coastline to walk their four-legged friends.
Dog-friendly beaches include: Horton (only up to the Horton beach access), Mumbles, Pwll Du, Pobbles, Three Cliffs Bay, Oxwich Bay (including Crawley and Tor Bay), Mewslade Bay, Rhossili Bay, Llangennith, Broughton Bay, Whiteford Sands, Port Eynon (from the main steps west to the Salt House) and Swansea Bay (from the slip opposite Victoria Park to the beach access opposite Sketty Lane).
Stuart Willingale, Swansea Council’s Housing and Public Health Team Leader, said, “It’s important that dog owners pay attention to the relevant signage.
“During the summer months we expect a higher volume of families to visit our beaches.
“Dog owners can walk their dogs along a large number of beaches in Swansea all-year-round.
“There are a number of beaches where dogs are not permitted. This bye-law is in place to ensure our beaches are accessible to everyone.
“There are signs at every beach to highlight where dogs are not allowed. We encourage responsible dog ownership and hope beach-goers and pet owners can equally enjoy the wonderful coastline we have at our disposal.”
