Ulster Rugby 22 – 22 Newport Gwent Dragons
A heroic defensive display by the Newport Gwent Dragons earned the Welsh region a deserved share of the spoils against Ulster in a Magners League clash at Ravenhill.
The home side led 17-12 at the break and would have been favourites to go on to secure the win but hooker Steve Jones gave the Dragons the perfect start after the halftime break when he shot off the back of a rolling maul to dive over to lift the Dragons’ hopes.
Jason Tovey, playing at fly half instead of his usual full back position, slotted the conversion to put the Dragons ahead but their lead was short lived after Ulster winger Simon Danielli dived over in the corner after slick passing gave him space to slide in.
In the 54th minute Tovey snapped over a drop goal to level the scores at 22-22. Thereafter Ulster piled into the Dragons but the Welsh side, led magnificently by skipper Luke Charteris held their nerve to hold on for a deserved draw.
