Trading Standards officers from Blaenau Gwent Council will be offering advice on doorstep sellers during an event in Tredegar this month.
There has been an increase in doorstep crime in recent years and now more than 15,500 complaints regarding doorstep selling are made annually to Trading Standards across the UK. Although many doorstep traders are honest and genuine there are some that are not – so find out how to feel confident and safe when dealing with doorstep sellers.
A cold caller or rogue trader can trick a householder into letting them in – either to steal or to persuade them to hand over money for goods or services they neither want or afford or ever materialise.
Blaenau Gwent Trading Standards will be taking part in the multi-agency events ‘Neighbourhoods Together’ at the Cefn Golau Housing Estate in Tredegar. Trading Standards officers will be at the Cefn Golau Tenants and Residents House (91/93 Attlee Way) on Wednesday, 20th July and will also be making home visits to vulnerable residents. Officers will be on hand to provide advice and information together with handing out guidance leaflets and window stickers to discourage cold callers.
Anyone requiring any information or advice on doorstep callers or any other consumer issue can contact Blaenau Gwent’s Trading Standards of 01495 356138.
