Police in the Vale of Glamorgan are warning motorists about the importance of not leaving valuables in their cars when leaving them unattended. The warning comes as more people take advantage of the warm weather and start to visit the region’s popular coastal car parks.
Llantwit Major Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Paul Revers said: “The exceptionally warm weather we have been enjoying in recent weeks has drawn an increased number of visitors to our beaches and coastal areas.
“I want to remind motorists who park their cars in our coastal car parks of the importance of taking some simple security precautions when they leave their vehicles unattended when they enjoy the Vale’s beaches or go for walks.
“All too often motorists leave personal belongings visible in their cars when they set off for a walk along the beaches or coastal paths at popular sea-side locations such as Ogmore-by-Sea, Southerndown and Nash Point.
“Please do not to leave anything of value in your cars when they are parked and unattended. You should always take any valuables with you, don’t leave anything on display and do make sure all the doors and windows are made secure before leaving your vehicle in the car park.
“These car parks are often in the more remote locations and police will continue to maintain a high profile in the areas which will also reassure the local population that we take their security concerns very seriously.
“If you see anything that strikes you at all unusual please do not hesitate to report it. By working together we can continue to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves while visiting local attractions.”
Vale Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Taylor, added: “As well as targeting potential auto-crime we will continue to clamp down on any drugs use in the area. Our beaches and local attractions are places for everyone to enjoy all year round and we hope that this continues to be the case.”
