Don’t lose your right to vote

Make sure you don’t miss out on your right to vote at the forthcoming general election.

To vote, you must be on the electoral register. This is a legal requirement and you can be fined up to £1,000 for not being on it or for supplying false information. You may also find it difficulty to get credit or even a mobile phone contract.

The council sends a registration form to every home every autumn to check who should be on the electoral register.

If you move during the year you must re-register at your new address – a rolling registration – and forms are available at www.torfaen.gov.uk, council offices or by calling 01495 762200.

Once registered, you will receive a poll card just before an election telling you where and when to vote. Alternatively, you can apply for a postal vote up to 11 working days before an election.

To find out more about voting, email [email protected], visit www.electoralcommission.org.uk, call 01495 762200 or write to Electoral Registration Office, Torfaen County Borough Council, Civic Centre, Pontypool, Torfaen NP4 6RX.
