Following a six month process that was led by a strong partnership between Flintshire County Council and the local community, the final draft Masterplan for Flint is now ready.
Throughout its development, extensive consultation was undertaken by consultants DTZ and Taylor Young, including with local Councillors, residents, stakeholders, businesses and school children – giving the community opportunity to inform the consultants of the strengths and weaknesses of the town, and to play a full part in developing the future vision.
The overall approach for Flint Town Centre has taken inspiration from the town’s original medieval grid pattern, captured in John Speed’s 17th century map.
The main features of the plan include better housing that reflects the layout of the original fortified town – helping to strengthen Flint’s identity and image. Also proposed are improvements to the public realm, such as the creation of an enhanced setting for St. Mary’s and St. David’s Church, and new streets and a layout that will assist with movement around the town.
The next step is to secure formal Executive approval from the County Council, which will take place later on in the spring. In the meantime, artistic impressions are now on display at Flint Library, and Flintshire County Council will communicate further updates in due course.
